Computing Concepts PD - Data

In this module, we look at the fundamental concepts behind data. Dr. Fran Trees from the Rutgers University Computer Science Department explores programs with data and extracting information from data (telling stories and how students can answer or formulate questions about data). We examine how data is collected, how collaboration aids with data, how data is analyzed and visualized, and how algorithms are used in or with data.

Next, we continue our on data through topics like binary numbers, compression, and how we can extract information from data. Dr. Trees explores concepts relating to the use of real-world data in computer science classrooms and topics covered in the new curriculum for AP Computer Science Principles. She also provides resources and suggestions for implementing this content in the classroom.
